Privacy Policy
Effective date: 17 October 2026 · Last updated: 17 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data Green Grassed Studio ("we", "us") handles when you use Battleship Duos and this website (together, the "Service"), why we handle it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain English.
The short version
- You can play against the computer in your browser without an account. Those games never leave your device.
- Online features (ranked duels, 2v2, friends, leaderboards) need a Google sign-in. We receive your name, email, profile picture and a unique account ID.
- We store your game profile: rating, match results, stats, achievements, skins and friends.
- Chat is limited to preset phrases such as "Good luck!". There is no free-text chat and no voice chat.
- We do not sell your data, do not show ads, and do not use advertising or third-party analytics trackers.
- You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.

1. Who we are
Green Grassed Studio is the independent game studio that makes and operates Battleship Duos, and is the "controller" of the personal data described here. You can reach us at support@greengrassed.co.uk.
2. What we collect
What we handle depends on how you play.
If you play offline or against the computer
Nothing about your games is sent to us. Preferences such as difficulty and ship skin are stored only on your device (see section 5).
If you sign in to play online
| Data | Details | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Account data | Google account display name, email address, profile picture and a unique account ID (UID). | Your Google account, through Google sign-in |
| Game profile | Display name, rating, wins and losses, shots and hits, streaks, achievements, selected ship skins, leaderboard and weekly Fleet Cup standings. | Created by your play |
| Match data | Fleet placements, every shot, results, turn timings, opponent or partner, and the preset chat phrases you send (the last few are kept with the match). | Created by your play |
| Social data | Friends, friend requests, alliance partner, and an "online now" status that shows other players when you are active. | Created by you |
| Fair-play data | Signals used to spot cheating, rating abuse or collusion (for example unusual timing or repeated pairings), and reports we create when a match is voided. | Generated by our servers |
| Technical data | IP address, device and browser type, app version and basic request logs. These are generated automatically by our hosting provider when your device connects, and are used for security and reliability. | Your device |
| Messages to us | Anything you send when you email support, such as your name, email address and the details of your problem. | You |
What we do not collect
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data, payment details (the game is free), or any advertising identifier. The Android app asks only for internet access.
3. Why we use it
| Purpose | Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Create your account, run matches, 2v2 alliances, friends, leaderboards and show your profile. | Performing our contract with you (providing the game) |
| Detect cheating and abuse, void unfair matches, keep the service secure, and fix bugs. | Our legitimate interests in a fair, safe and working game |
| Check for and deliver game updates (the Windows game contacts our server to check the latest version). | Performing our contract / legitimate interests |
| Reply to your support requests. | Legitimate interests and performing our contract |
| Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests. | Legal obligation |
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling for advertisers, or automated decisions that have legal effects on you. Voiding a match is a game-integrity measure and you can contact us if you think it was wrong.
4. Who we share it with
- Other players. Your display name, rating, achievements, leaderboard position and online status are visible to other signed-in players. Your opponents and alliance partner see the in-match information needed to play. Your email address is never shown to other players.
- Google (service provider). We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Functions and Hosting) to run the Service. Google processes data on our behalf under its data processing terms. When you sign in, Google also processes data under its own privacy policy.
- Authorities and legal. We may disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and security of players or the Service.
- Business changes. If our business or the game is sold or merged, data may transfer to the new owner, who must honour this policy.
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
5. Data on your device
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The web game and apps store a small amount of data on your device so they work properly:
- Preferences (difficulty, ship skin) in your browser's local storage.
- Sign-in session, kept by Firebase Authentication so you stay signed in. The Windows game stores its saved session on your computer if you choose "stay signed in".
You can clear this at any time by signing out, clearing your browser data, or uninstalling the app.
6. Where data is processed
Our provider operates data centres around the world, so your data may be processed outside your own country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on safeguards such as the provider's Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent mechanisms.
7. How long we keep it
- Account and game profile: for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete it, we remove it within 30 days.
- Match records: kept with your profile for stats, leaderboards and fair-play review, and removed or anonymised when you delete your account.
- Server logs: kept for a short period by our hosting provider for security and reliability, then deleted automatically.
- Support emails: kept until your request is resolved and for up to 12 months afterwards.
We may keep limited information longer where the law requires it, or to deal with disputes and abuse (for example, to stop a banned account from rejoining).
8. Security
Online matches are decided on our servers, and your hidden fleet is never sent to your opponent. Data is encrypted in transit, access to our systems is restricted, and database rules prevent players from reading each other's private data. No service is perfectly secure, so please keep your Google account protected.
9. Children
Battleship Duos is not directed at children under 13 (or the higher age of digital consent in your country, up to 16). Online play requires a Google account, which has its own age requirements. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below that age. If you are a parent or guardian and think your child has signed up, email us and we will delete the account. Playing against the computer in the browser needs no account and sends us no data.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (including the UK, EU/EEA and California) you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- correct inaccurate data, or delete your data ("right to be forgotten");
- restrict or object to our use of your data, and ask for it in a portable format;
- withdraw consent where we rely on it, at any time;
- not be discriminated against for using these rights.
How to use them: email support@greengrassed.co.uk from the email address on your Google account so we can verify it is you. We reply within 30 days. To delete your account, put "Delete my account" in the subject line.
You can also change your Google account settings, or revoke the game's access to your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to your local data protection authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your EU supervisory authority. We would appreciate the chance to fix the problem first.
California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we use it only for the purposes described above.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the game grows, for example when we add new features. We will change the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the game or on this website before they take effect.
